Web development for a sustainable future

Presenting about Flex at Drupal Camp SF

After Kieran Lal of Acquia asked me to propose a session for this year's Bay Area Drupal Camp, I decided a talk on Flex would be in order. The conference leads agreed, and on Saturday afternoon I got a chance to discuss and demo the following:

  • What Adobe Flex is and why it is gaining popularity as a tool for front-end development.
  • The differences between Flex, Flash, and Actionscript.
  • Building a basic Flex application in Eclipse.
  • Setting up a basic Drupal backend and making node and user services available.
  • Configuring a Flex front-end to consume Drupal services.
  • More advanced multimedia applications with Flex, such as client-server video recording with red5.
  • When to use AJAX rather than Flex, using youMashTube as a case study.

The presentation is attached ( in Open Office format ). You can also see a higher-res photo of the presentation thanks to Jason Chinn
